The morning after the night before.....not a bad way to spend it!
Myself & other half were at our friends' wedding in Kinlochard Village Hall at the weekend (a fabulous spot for such a thing (pre-midge season)). We had a really good time helped on in no small part by a nice bunch of people, beautiful surroundings, great B&B overlooking Loch Ard & a stumble upon a rather fine tearoom at Balquhidder on our amble homewards(ish).
Congratulations Katie & Nico!

gift vouchers now available...

We're acutely aware that at this time of year some of our customers' partners/friends/families sometimes get a bit confused/overwhelmed/desperate. So to make things that bit easier we now have the option of boo vake gift vouchers available to buy in the shop (or over the phone if you like). At the moment we have them in £25s & £50s but they could be in any amount you fancy, just ask.

back....with orwell and goode

Well, now been back from our hols for a week and a half now (went to Stockholm & Helsinki but more on that at a later date) - so about time I showed you some of the new things that have been appearing in the shop in the last wee while. First up are some screenprints and tea-towels from design partnership Orwell and Goode (aka Zuzana & Bronagh), who from different parts of the country (one in the Highlands & one in the borders) design & handprint an array of distinctively Scottish homewares.

And here are some of the Orwell and Goode teatowels & screenprints in the shop!

Each one comes from a numbered edition of 50 and can be hung on the wall or propped on a shelf (the smallest ones can quite happily stand up on their own).

Tuesday, 15 February 2011

I'm just back from a couple of days visiting family on the Black Isle (very nice train journey down this morning with sun and a couple of hours of reading time - bliss) to find the postie waiting with a heap of packages. Amongst which were more Glove & Hate oven mitts from Stuart Gardiner (if you were in the shop at the end of last week asking about these for a wedding present - so sorry, didn't think they would come so soon!).

Other new things to arrive were Stuart's Drop Scones Not Bombs tote bags, wrapping paper from Gemma Correll, screenprinted purses & letterpress cards from sarah @ Marram Studio, melamine tumblers & mugs from Michelle Mason, and heart shaped ceramic brooches with bikes on them by Mary Goldberg (pics to come soon).

the 'things i like' book

Resurrecting the old boo vake 'take a hint!! 'service we now have the 'things I like' book! Aimed at all those customers who are forever buying all their favourite boo vake things for everybody else but whose friends/family are frankly clueless when it comes to them.

And it works like this - you write down you favourite boo vake things in our wee book and we just carelessly leave it lying around the shop for anybody to see! Yep, that could be your partner, friends, family, workmates.... Who knows, it might just work!

And if you're a bit further afield but would like a page of your own you can always get in touch (mail [AT] boovake [DOT] co [DOT] uk) and we will fill it out for you!

new hilke macintyre ceramic reliefs

hens (approx 12cm x 5.5cm) freestanding or can be hung on wall. £32
Fife based artist Hilke MacIntyre has just sent us some of her fabulous new ceramic reliefs. Each wall-hanging relief is one of an edition of only 50 (although the colouring of each makes each one unique). I love the differing patterns and textures in Hilke's work. What you don't really see in these images are the contrasts between the matt and glazed areas which really lift them. I also love how her female figures always seem to dressed in lovely 50's style dresses whether they are out doing the garden, feeding the hens, or out and about the town! Find out more about Hilke and her artist husband Ian here.

back to the house (15cm x 15.5cm) wall-hanging relief. £60

wedding (13.5cm x 26.5cm) larger wall-hanging relief with lots of dancing! £85

buffalo bill & lush designs

Now isn't this the most fabulous light shade ever! Another corker from the very talented ladies of Lush Designs celebrating when Buffalo Bill's 'Wild West Show' came to Britain. Complete with the man himself on horseback, Queen Victoria, Annie Oakley and the chap at the bottom whose name I've temporarily forgotten (must look it up). Aah.. that will be Sitting Bull then.
We have these at the moment in a large pendant shade (£60) and a smaller lamp shade (£34). The smaller shade is without the figures but has the horse galloping through the cacti filled landscape.

We've also got some wild pig lampshades & tea towels and some great screenprinted clocks (which I'll post when I've got some pictures).

hannah nunn

We've just received some fabulous botanical paper-cut lamps and candle-covers from the very talented Hannah Nunn. I met Hannah at last year's bctf (although I'd seen her lamps a couple of years previous to that) but it wasn't until I was looking for a 40th present for a very good friend that I finally made contact again. Happily my friend loved her lamp and the upshot was that I put an order in for the shop straight away.
Not only does Hannah make lovely lamps but she also has a fabulous shop in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, called Radiance.

The candle-covers are £15, and the lamps range from £56-£68.
